Edmund Rice, the founder of the Congregation,(1762-1844) was a successful Irish businessman who gave up the world of commerce in order to found, in 1802, Mount Sion College, in Waterford, which was devoted to looking after the needy. Today, in different times and circumstances, the Christian Brothers' Colleges around the world, try to emulate their founder, his criterion of excellence applied to all areas of school life, aiming at maximizing the person's potential, relating it to the development of a set of values and commitment to serve others. At present, the Brothers no longer live in the College but in La Cruz de Carrasco, a deprived area where they do community work. What follows is a list of the Brothers who were in the College from 1955 to 1998, in alphabetical order, indicating those who were Headmasters and the corresponding years.
