Edmund Rice
Edmund Rice was born on June 1st 1762 at Westcourt, Callan, Co.Kilkenny, Ireland. A member of a wealthy family himself, he was moved by the poverty suffered by children and youths in his town.

Convinced that a Christian education could change their fate, he decides to set up schools where students cannot only receive formal education but they also obtain the necessary material and spiritual nourishment to ensure their integral development.

Together with a group of voluntary supporters, in 1802 he founds the Christian Brothers Congregation at the service of the Catholic Church.
